How would you feel, being stripped off your education, your easy access to internet? Your food and drink, clean and fresh, now dirty and stale? Your basic needs, lets say electricity, is now non-existent? What would you do? What would you feel?
Poverty, being an ancient
issue, is a worldwide issue. Statistically, poverty is getting very popular, and is
moving at a rapid pace. What is making poverty so popular and so quick its
growth, on a planet we call Earth? Maybe the answer lies in ourselves.
Maybe the main cause is us,
the ones with more to have, and more to lose. Have you ever asked yourself,
have you ever cared about what people are eating in third-world countries?
Or maybe poverty is caused by the world economy, now
is at a quite volatile state, that the third-world countries have to be left
out of the game, so no risk
of loss is taken into account?
of loss is taken into account?
A famous man, once a prisoner before being a big man in the politics of
South Africa, had said:
“Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice. Like
Slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be
overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. Sometimes it falls on a
generation to be great. YOU can be that great generation. Let your greatness
blossom.”
This man was named Nelson Mandela. He did what many could not. He tried to
change the view of the world, even if he had to do it by himself. He had to struggle
through many obstacles, even being called a traitor by his own country. But in the end he succeeded turning South Africa into a country that goes against poverty, plus a country that is multiracially harmonious.
And he did mentioned that poverty is man-made, and is not possible to have
it end.
